A real example of how being frugal can turn you into a millionaire.
Just wanted to make a post about my story to share some inspiration. I'm not going to get super specific with everything.
I worked a shitty summer job at a office when I wasn't in college and made 2k for the entire summer. I was 20 at the time. I had always been frugal even though my family wasn't struggling. When I went back to school for the year I got back into a hobby I enjoyed as a kid. I won't be specific with what it was but I started collecting again. Eventually I started buying and then selling in the hobby to grow my collection. 2 years later I turned that 2k into 30k and then I graduated with my engineering degree. I never knew what I wanted to do with my life, I chose engineering because it was an extremely difficult degree and it would be impressive on my resume. After struggling in interviews and bombing them, I decided to try buying and selling full time.
With 30k I started to sit there and flip my way up, the pressure was intense as I felt like if it didn't work out I would have wasted time I could have been gaining experience at a real job. Paying rent and multiple bills as you are flipping wasn't easy, fucking up a flip was a slippery slope when you had bills to pay. I had to balance reinvesting all my money back into the hobby and taking out just enough to survive.
I lived extremely frugally for 6 years. the anxiety of failing kept me locked on 24/7 to completing this mission of financial freedom. There was no turning off. Weekends, nights it didn't matter I was thinking about the market all day every day. Always planning my next move and figuring out what to do next. It was some of the most intense years of my entire life. It felt as if I was in fight or flight the entire time. I didn't buy clothing, I didn't buy new shoes. I literally sacrificed my 20s to get to this point.
But after 6 years at 28 years old I sold out of everything and am financially free. I no longer have to work anymore. I sold out 5 months ago and still live frugally right now.
Just wanted to share that it's possible through hard work and being disgustingly frugal that you really can climb up.
Hope this is inspirational to some of you.
