I have recently taken to making Privé reservations. Hyatt has a little-known program called Hyatt Prive that offers similar benefits to Globalist but is available to everyone. You pay rate similar or a little more than the member rate, but you get some great benefits.

I think there are certain situations where Privé adds benefits in excess of its cost, even for Globalists.

Those situations include:

•Where the property has a club and you have a preference for restaurant breakfast. Privé provides restaurant breakfast for 2 adults.

•Where you know you will use the F&B credit. Some places this would not present much value to me (eg. GH Kauai) because I’d rather eat off property. But at HR Cartagena, they have an amazing pool with sunset views. I’m going to enjoy cocktails there regardless, so having the credit an $1:$1 offset.

•You have a desire for an upgraded room and don’t have any SUAs or status. The Privé agent has always been able to confirm me into a corner suite. Of course this is based on availability.

•You want to add some luxury touches to your stay (bottle of wine, charcuterie, chocolate strawberries, etc)

My booking:

Looking at the rates in the images, with a U.S. passport the VAT is not collected.
Privé currently has a 15% Off rate.
So my nightly rate was $204, $207.40, and $229.50 for a total of $640.90.

Looking at booking myself, the rate on the app showed $199.92, $203.25, and $224.91 for a total of $628.07 for the same room type.

It would be $12.84 cheaper to book myself directly. My previous experience is that it’s $25-40 more per night to book Privé, but the 15% off rate Privé offered made the nightly rate very near to the member rate.

Privé Includes:
1. $100 F&B credit.
2. Daily Restaurant Breakfast for 2: 96,000COP (about $25 each) $148 USD total for 2 people and 3 nights.
3. Confirmed Room Upgrade: upgraded to Ocean View Regency Suite - Corner without use of SUA: est. value $100 (opportunity cost of an SUA). I have stated here as a globalist and they have not upgraded me to a suite without using a SUA. With Privé, it’s been ‘automatic’ in the sense that the suite upgrade is displayed when i go to
4. Welcome Amenities: Santa Carolina Reserve Sauvignon Blanc: est value $14
5. chocolate covered strawberries: $6

Rate difference: 640.90 -628.06 ‎ = $12.84

Total Value of Privé: 100 + 148 + 100 + 14 + 4 - 12.84 ‎ = $353.16

Other people may have different valuations of the Privé inclusions (for example, if you don’t care about a suite, or you prefer to not eat or drink in the hotel) so may adjust those amounts down/up.

These are my back-of-the-envelope thoughts on my recent Privé experience.

Are there other Privé users who have stories (good or bad) to share?
