You’re looking at 13 nights of work. After a solid month of chasing clear skies, I finally completed this image of the majestic California Nebula (NGC 1499)!

This cosmic cloud is colossal: it stretches over 100 light-years across and is located about 1,000 light-years away in the constellation Perseus. It’s one of the largest and closest emission nebulae to Earth! 💫

This isn’t what the eye can see—this is the Hubble Palette (SHO), translating invisible light from sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen gases into the vibrant golds and electric teals you see here. Swipe left to see the massive scale and incredible fine detail I captured over nearly 14 hours of exposure time! I loved editing this one a lot. The lack of OIII in this nebula allowed me to play around with the colors, and get a yellowish green tint which I’m loving.
