So yeah, today’s my birthday, and I just got the most unexpected “gift” ever.

People

I met her back in my first year of college. From the very beginning, I was completely into her — genuinely thought she was the one. I’m from a tier-1 engineering college, and she was preparing for her entrance exams at that time. I tried to help her as much as I could — not because I expected anything, but because I truly cared. Honestly, I don’t even want to count the things I did, because thinking about it now just makes it hurt more.

Time really does fly. We’ve been together for almost 4 years now. This year she couldn’t clear her exam, and I know she’s been stressed — with family pressure, frustration, and everything going on. I always tried to be understanding and supportive.

But today, on my birthday, she told me she’s looking to get married soon. Her parents have already started searching for a guy.

I asked her to give me a little time since my placement process is still going on, and once I’m settled, we can plan things properly. Her reply broke me — she said she wants someone who’s already well-settled and doesn’t want to struggle again.

That one line hit like a punch. Because this was the same girl who once said she’d stand by me through all the struggles until we made it together. I guess I was just too blind, believing that we were both in it for the long run.

Now I’m sitting here wondering what this relationship even meant to her. Was it love? Was it timepass? Maybe I’ll never know. I just know that from my side, I was emotionally all in — and seeing her switch like this hurts more than I can explain.

Still, I genuinely wish her all the best for her future. No hate, just disappointment and pain. As for me, I don’t think I’ll be able to trust anyone easily again. Maybe once I get placed, I’ll just move abroad or start fresh somewhere far away.

Anyway, just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks if you read till the end.
