Summer research programs for college premed freshmen w/ no experience
How do I go about finding and applying to these? Do I just mass apply and see which ones I get into? Is a 3.85/4.0 GPA with 4.0/4.0 in STEM classes in my first semester a passable GPA to get into a SURF/REU? Is it even possible to get into them as a freshman? My university's SURF doesn't take freshmen but I think others do?
I'm a freshman neuro major mainly interested in gastroenterology/neuro research. Haven't really started applying yet cause I need to gather rec letters, and wait for my first transcript to come out in December.
Note that I am at an R1 School, and I want to try and get some type of research in the spring semester, as I heard it's a lot easier in that semester then in the fall with no experience.
Since I am a freshman, is it OK to have stuff like non-research experience from high school and the summer before freshman year on my application?
Any program/application recommendations/tips would be greatly appreciated! I'm low income but not first gen of South Asian descent if that qualifies me for any programs. Permanent resident as well.
