State of Speranza
Raiders,
Ladies and Gentlemen, I appreciate your time here this fine day. We have just finished up a fantastic weekend of raiding for the first time as a community. I for one am excited to see the statistics of our conquest! How many of those dirty clankers have we dropped, how many expeditions are prepared so far, and what cruelty has been inflicted topside? It will be telling, to see how we have all engaged in our first full foray into the Rust Belt.
I’m here today to make a humble request. It’s a cruel world, of violence and greed. Extraction campers, betrayals, and thirsty third partiers are not uncommon in the harsh reality of the top side. We wouldn’t have it any other way! This is how the world works.
But it also has a different side too. One of community, collaboration, and just a little bit of kindness. Maybe you too have had this interaction before, there is a phrase I have heard many times in the wilds, a phrase that will stick with me for quite some time.
“Do you need anything?”
When we are topside, guns drawn and violence swirling around us in the thousands of bullets fired by a Bastion, ripping through the air with a rage we cannot understand, those words are a gentle reminder that there is something unique about us.
“Do you need anything?”
The ferocity of a Leaper bounding through the air, with a cold and evil intent to crush you. A Hornet, viciously chasing you down to extraction, and the unforgiving Wasp, willing to follow you to the depths of hell just to see you burn.
“Do you need anything?”
Those words are what separate us from the Arc. It’s a fine line, between us and them when we are topside. Hell, when you head into the wasteland with a crew, the other raiders are the goal, and I can’t fault you for that. I encourage it, because those trials are what make us all stronger.
But when we go alone, we have a single common enemy. The Arc.
So my humble request is, as the days wear on, and the weeks pass us by, it’s going to change. We may see bigger challenges, strained resources, and tempting rewards. All I ask is that we don’t forget those words.
You should never ask that question to another Raider without a plan and a big rifle. Don’t be foolish. But remember how powerful they are the next time you walk away from a dead Bastion, because that enemy is not the biggest, and it won’t be the hardest one we fight. And we will fight them all. Together.
Good luck Raiders, I’ll see you topside.
