Would I be the asshole if I ran my cable anyway, without my parents knowledge?
Would I be the asshole if I ran my cable anyway, without my parents knowledge? So I'm 17F. I live with my parents (55F, 61M) who don't know the first thing about tech. Not surprised, considering their age. Well recently I got a long Ethernet cable, with keystone jacks on each end. For context Im attending a technical school, majoring in cybersecurity while in highschool. One of our assignments was to make a very long Ethernet cable (100-300 feet), run it to the student server room, then terminate it at the server and at the desk where you work at. Easy right? Instructor makes us test them, then we took them down today. On my way home I asked my mom if her and my dad would let me run my cable from the router, in the living room, to my room, which then would connect to my Ethernet switch, which also came from school. I picked up a ton of ewaste from school about 2 months ago, super fun time actually. My mom says that I need to clean my room before i can run my cable. My room just has a few towers in the middle of the floor while I'm restructuring my homelab. Otherwise it's pretty damn clean. Yeah, it's not chip fab clean but what can you expect from a teenager? So in conclusion, would I be the asshole if I went ahead and ran the cable despite what they said? For context I have internet already, I need faster internet though. I'm using a wifi extender connected to my opnsense firewall, with their permission of course. Aitah?
