Applied and interviewed for a job. Then they changed hours and adjusted the pay range.
Boys & Girls Club in Indy.
Applied for 2-6pm afterschool teaching job for $14-$15 an hour.
Interviewer said the same. I mentioned I had my sights on a separate morning job too (since this job was only 20 hrs/week), so the guy mentioned some possible extra hours they could give me working basketball nights. I said I’d be interested.
Random dude with the B&G Club calls and says my interviewer was wrong. They need me guaranteed for 2–8:30 every weekday (except Friday’s), plus 8-5pm on Saturday’s for that basketball league. Can’t miss a shift. I’m very interested but have scheduled plans I don’t want to cancel. I tell him I’m interested and will definitely consider it.
Interviewer offers me the job. He eventually tells me I don’t have to be there for every night, just that I’m available and want the extra hours. I say I’m down.
The pay ends up being $14 no matter what. No matter my skills and experience, no matter anyone’s skills or experience. I ask about pay range twice and it gets ignored. They want me signing the paperwork fast.
I give them the paperwork.
I don’t hear anything for a couple days so I text and check in. The interviewer belatedly replies that they’re going in a different direction. I ask politely if I may ask why. No response.
GAME OVER.
Any thoughts/advice?
I’m guessing by not agreeing to more hours and the lowest amount of pay immediately, they considered me “difficult” and wouldn’t play ball.
