moving to Maplewood; both working parents commuting to NYC
Wife and I are currently live in Jersey City and have a 1-year old. We currently live in Jersey City and both of us commute into Manhattan (e.g. Chelsea area) daily for work. Commuting on the path takes ~35 minutes for each of us. Currently we drop off the kid at daycare around 8am and pick him up around 5:45pm. Tiring but workable with the short commute.
We are considering moving into a larger space in Maplewood but don't know how folks do it. Anyone know of 2 full time parents commuting into Manhattan with a young child? Looking at train schedules we'd likely take a 7:20am direct train into Hoboken or Penn Station and end up back home around 6:30pm ET. Do daycares open up this early? Would our only choice be hiring a full-time live in or live-out nanny? Is this a terrible idea?
Hoping to hear of any other parents that make this work or whether we should just stick it out in Jersey City for another year or two until one of us finds a remote job.
