Degreeworks Plans

My advisor made a plan for me in my degree works which I am fine with, but was wondering if instead of taking one class i can switch it out with another that gives me the same credit. Would that be fine or should I talk to my advisor first. I don’t see the problem as it gives me the same credit, in degreeworks it says to get the credit in one class or another, and I prefer the latter.
