Inherited grandmother's house in Knoxville, living in Seattle - completely overwhelmed
My grandmother passed in July and left me her house near UT campus. I'm in Seattle (moved here in 2018 for work), and honestly have no idea what to do. The house needs serious work - foundation issues ($15K+ quote), roof leak in the back bedroom, HVAC from the '90s, and the kitchen looks like it hasn't been touched since 1985.
Called two realtors. Both said I'd need $40-50K in repairs before listing, plus I'd have to fly back multiple times for contractors, inspections, showings, etc. Between my job and two kids under 5, that's just not realistic. My brother (who lives in Memphis) keeps pushing me to "just fix it up and sell it properly," but he's not the one dealing with this.
A coworker went through something similar last year with a property in Chattanooga. She mentioned that there are cash buyers - said they bought her inherited house as-is, closed in 3 weeks, and she handled everything remotely. Sounded almost too easy?
Has anyone here actually sold an inherited property while living out of state? What route did you take? I'm torn between taking the financial hit for speed versus spending months (and $50K I don't have) trying to do this "the right way." https://www.dignityproperties.com/
