Sand as substrate

Hi, Does someone here use sand as substrate? The kitchen towel paper feels incredibly clinical to me and I really do not like it tbh. I'll probably have qungaya aeta so I'll make sure there's a little box with soil to put the eggs in, I'll put the sand quite thinly so that she doesn't put her eggs there. But like, how does one get the poop out? Are there sieves you can use? I can't really find how big the poops are compared to sand. Thanks in advance!

(Alternatively, if I were to use a very thin layer of soil can I just add that to my houseplants where the poop will be used or sth?)
