Child legal- should I change solicitors?
Hi everyone, I’m hoping for some advice or shared experience from anyone who’s been through a similar situation.
I’m currently involved in a child arrangements case regarding my young daughter (she’s under 2). There’s an existing court order for weekly contact between her and her father, in a community setting and supported by his family. Recently, my daughter became unwell (we attended A&E and received medication), and I informed the father that she wasn’t fit for contact that day. I proposed a weekend alternative and even suggested a short FaceTime call as backup.
Despite that, the father responded by insisting on an additional session and proposing home-based contact — which is not part of the current order. I was following my solicitor’s advice when I prioritised my daughter’s health, but now I’m being portrayed as obstructive in the court bundle.
The final hearing is later this month, and I’m really concerned. The other party refused to include certain evidence in the bundle, and my solicitor didn’t push back or advocate for those key documents to be added. I was also told that Cafcass “went beyond their remit”, but no proper explanation was given to help me understand how that affects my case. I feel lost, unsupported, and unsure if my current legal team will represent me effectively at the final hearing.
I’m doing my best to co-parent and keep things child-focused, but I’m feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Are there any solicitors who could help at this stage? Or has anyone been through something similar and found a way to get back on track?
