Why do so many people blow through their savings waiting on another job?

Ive noticed many people have this behavior where once they lose a job they'll just wait and live off savings. Why are people not getting survival jobs that week in retail or fast food, so they have some kind of money coming in? Its not a job you plan to keep its just to keep you afloat while you job hunt.
