ADHD & Starting HRT - 1.5 Weeks In

Peri & ADHD

I started HRT 1.5 weeks ago (0.1mg estradiol patch 2x week, 200 mg progesterone nightly, estradiol vaginal cream).

I sought help after realizing how terrible my mood swings were, that my ADHD had become unmanageable and my stimulant meds seemingly doing nothing. As someone with ADHD, executive functioning and brain fog is part of daily life, but for the past 6 months it's been getting worse, and the moods have been a rollercoaster.

I'm talking off the charts constant anxiety and rumination, obsessive thoughts, rage episodes, deeply depressive and concerning mood swings that just weren't getting better- all despite good sleep, nutrition, exercise and weekly therapy.

The past few days (even though I'm approaching my period) have been noticeably better, with the constant anxiety brain chatter subsiding. It's akin to taking stimulant medication for the first time- you feel your brain go quieter.

Yesterday I was feeling great in the morning, but by the evening it was all back, with a super low depressive episode making it feel like it was all hopeless... I just realized with my twice weekly patch changes, this was a 4 day stretch, with a patch change this morning. Today I'm feeling a little better.

Going to run an experiment on myself and keep with this patch change cadence to see if Sunday evenings are rough and that's what it is.

I know more time is needed for hormones to level off, but I'm feeling hopeful that less crazy days are ahead.

Hang in there ladies <3
