Should I try to revive 'dead' channel or create a new one?

DISCUSSION

Should I keep working on my current ~4-year-old channel or make a completely new one?

My current YouTube channel has a little over 1000 subscribers, around 500k lifetime views, and ~250 videos. But most of my success came from shorts, which I am no longer making. I'm now mainly doing long-form content, still in the same niche as the rest of my content, but struggling to get over 20 views. I won't deny the new videos still need some work, but I used to make significantly worse videos that would do a lot better before I did any shorts. In the last week or so, I've gotten 3 unique comments telling me I have promise, but should start a new channel, blaming my shorts for the lack of success on the channel.

First of all, do you think my time doing shorts is to blame? Would switching between the two really be that detrimental for a channel?

Do you think it's smarter to keep trying to revive my current channel, which has the legacy analytics, subscribers, and is a good showcase of my YouTube progression? Or should I start a new channel so that my time doing shorts won't keep dragging me down?

Let me know if any more information would help.
