Odd surgery experience
I had the most bizarre experience at my surgery today. Was called in for a long term condition review (high blood pressure) with one of the nurse practitioners. I’d had a lovely experience with a different practice nurse when I went last time. This was a bit different.
She asked me my weight but didn’t want to weigh me, I weigh every day so showed her my Shotsy record. She made me convert from lbs to kg so she could update her screen. She said that’s a bit different from last time (no comment on the move from 35 BMI to 25). I explained I’d been on MJ since April and yes I had indeed lost 67lbs since then. She just sort of looked at me, I really wasn’t expecting praise or a song and dance but maybe some kind of acknowledgment of what I’d said?
She then said ‘so you’ve been paying for that yourself?’ I said yes and she sort of snorted. It was all very weird. After she’d taken my BP she asked me what my long term plan was, I explained I had about another 17lbs to go and then I’d maintain for a bit before my long term goal of coming off MJ, and hopefully reduce or eliminate the BP meds eventually. Again she sort of just stared at me.
She kept saying ‘your blood pressure is very low’ - Yes I know, I was hoping to start reducing my BP meds. I said I had 3 months of BP data to send her and asked for the surgery email and she said I’d have to check at reception as she had too many tabs open to tell me.
I asked if they could do a full blood screen before she started to draw blood as I’ve been experiencing some dizziness on standing and leaning over and wanted to rule out anaemia. I do think it might be the low BP though. She reluctantly agreed to do that (I’m not holding my breath that she actually will).
She kept repeating that my BP was very low, but just said the dr would contact me ‘if he wants to do something’. I’m usually pretty assertive at appointments (in a friendly way) but she just flummoxed me.
I got the distinct impression that she’s not a fan of MJ! Sorry for the long post, I had to get all that off my chest. Thanks for listening if you got this far!
