New strangulation porn law has raised questions (UK)

I’ll start with, I haven’t got a clue if this is the right type of question here / the right subreddit to ask it one, however I checked the rules and besides maybe rule 8 I don’t think I’m breaking anything (genuinely just curious)

After seeing the change around the strangulation and extreme porn in the news, it got my girlfriend and I talking/thinking.

How far does consent ‘protect’ you to do what want with someone else?

Obviously you can’t murder someone because they gave you ‘consent’ nor many other things.

However with choking (I understand the difference between this and strangling to be largely around the consent - please enlightenment me if I am wrong) it seems like a fairly popular kink/fetish is now cast in a different light?
