What do i do about the mouth pain/inflammation/sores?

My mouth always ends up with some kind of painful inflammation, canker sore, or other nondescript but fucking painful ail. I get that that's the cost of smoking it, but there HAS to be something I can do to protect my mouth before and treat the pain after. I already use biotene. The only other thing I do is salt water rinse
