Wrexham GF/GA
National League promotion year: 3rd in GA. Behind Boreham Wood and Notts. Only a few goals to separate the 3 so not a big spread but around 1 GA/game which is good. But we know how good we were for that level. G was obviously ludicrous.
League Two: 4th in GA. Still really good. Just over 1GA/game. GF also at he top of the division.
League One: It's funny to me how this was a tough season but the team locked it down on defense. A close 2nd to Birmingham on GA at 34 in 46 and no one else was really close. It's also funny however that even though goals weren't necessarily lacking - they dropped significantly. 67 in 34 is nothing to sniff at but we were only tied for 8th in the division. Again, not horrible but the defence took charge while the offense did enough to get it over the line.
It's obviously harder to dominate as we go up and so we had to lock it down.
Championship: I started this post with this stat in mind: Tied for 6th in GF in the Championship thus far. How? Most thought we would be in a relegation battle but those with a level head thought once the pieces put in place started clicking that mid-table would be a great result. We're scoring in the 2nd division like a mid-table team would. Obviously the GA have to come down but it isn't in a dire state.
Over the years the makeup of the team changes and the way they have to play in the division they are changes. But I just keep thinking: Imagine telling yourself that a quarter way into the season the club would be at a 0 GF/GA differential in the Championship with the 6th most GF in the league - we'd all snatch that and run.
This is a good team and it will only get better. The year will be tough but it will also be fun because we are competitive!
Thanks for entertaining my pointless rant.
