AITAH for suddenly turning completely cold towards my Thai boxing instructor after learning he may have feelings for me?
Previously I have made a post asking for advise on how to handle the situation with my Thai boxing instructor.
A brief summary of the previous post (including a few extra details that I did not mentioned):
End of last year, my friend introduced me (30F) to this Thai boxing studio that she's been joining for quite some time. Since the first day, my instructor (~40M, owner of the studio) been treating me nicely and being attentive. It is a small studio, and there are about 7-10 regular members. Everyone is being friendly to each other and with the instructor. From time to time, they would have dinner together, and the instructor would invite me too. I felt welcomed. And over time, my instructor feels more like a friend to me.
He is also a personal trainer at a different gym, so I hired him as my PT back in June. From that day, I would see him three times a week (two day boxing training and one day gym session). But then at some point, I started to feel uncomfortable around him. I felt like we were communicating too often, sometimes he would make jokes that I find awkward, and during gym session, him constantly commenting on my body shape, my posture and touching me more than necessary put me on alert.
And here's the AITAH part.
In September, I went on a two weeks trip. And after the trip, although I was looking forward to the training, somehow I dread seeing my instructor. Wondering if this is all in my head, I talked to my friend who introduced me to this studio, and she told me she and all other members were suspecting he's into me and wondering if we were together. She told me everyone could see that he was being extra nice to me since day one and he did things differently around me (for examples, he used to take the bus home, but since I joined, he started taking the same train with me. He would also change quickly after class, so that he would be ready to leave the studio at the same time with me, while there are still other members who haven't left yet, which honestly made me feel suffocating when this happened more often than I thought). After learning this, I suddenly find my instructor repulsive and disgusting.
While I still go to the boxing training regularly (I like this sport and the people there), I told my instructor I won't be doing the gym session anymore, he asked why I suddenly stopped, and I just said I have other plans. And I made our conversation short or did not reply to his messages completely if not related to scheduling. I also stopped having dinner with him after training (at first my friend would attend the same class with me, and three of us would go for dinner afterwards, but my friend been busy lately, and most of the time, there would be only two of us). I made an excuse saying that I want to stay healthy and have home-cooked meal.
I know I have not been direct with him and set a firm boundary (except one time I did tell him I did not like to be touched) and that's on me. My reason is everyone is friendly to each other, and it would be weird for just me to keep a distance with him, and at first I thought we were really just friends without thinking much, he also never being upfront about his feelings, so I cannot be sure whether he's really into me and confront him.
Now I feel like an AH, because to him, I suddenly acting cold and avoiding him, and I feel like I'm creating a strange and awkward dynamic among the group. I know he can tell I'm avoiding him, because he stopped texting me, and leaving together with me after class. He also stopped talking to me, and only gives a few instructions/ corrections here and there during training. I wonder if I should have do things differently.
AITAH for being cold, confusing him and treating him badly after knowing he maybe into me?
