Thoughts on this treatment plan?
I’ve (37F) been dealing with TMJ issues for over a decade and got a full work up done by my dentist today. It included a CT scan, a vibration test and a ton of measurements. Originally I was given a night guard and we managed it with meds, etc. As a result of the work up, my dentist believes that my TMJ is caused by sleep issues where I’m snoring and fighting to keep my airway open because my tongue isn’t staying in the right spot (so not not apnea lol). This is his treatment plan:
- a new night appliance with top and bottom pieces and a loop to keep my tongue in the right spot
- myofacial PT
- cold laser therapy
My question is has anyone done these things and had good results? Are they totally necessary or am I being taken for a ride by my doctor? It’s all really expensive and of course not covered by insurance.
