Unsure if I made the right choice getting a second kitten — advice?

General Advice

Hi everyone, I just recently brought home a 12-week-old female British Longhair kitten to accompany my 7-month-old Ragdoll boy. Day one was actually fairly encouraging — some hissing, a few growls, but no contact or chasing. They mostly observed each other calmly from a distance, and my Ragdoll has continued eating, using his litter box, and lounging like normal.

That said, I know it’s still very early — but I’m already worried. My Ragdoll is the absolute perfect cat. I wouldn’t change a single thing about him. He’s gentle, quiet as a mouse, never misbehaves, and has always been my little shadow. He was a bottle baby, so our bond is really strong.

I’m scared that introducing a companion might somehow change him — that he might become less affectionate, less content, or feel replaced. The new kitten is darling, but I can’t shake the worry that my Ragdoll might actually prefer being an only cat, especially since I work from home and he already gets constant companionship.

I have a two-week window where I could return the kitten if it seems like it’s not the right fit — but I really don’t want to unless it’s best for everyone. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through this: • Did your “perfect” only cat adjust happily to a new friend? • Did their personality or behavior change long-term? • How did you know whether to keep or rehome the new kitten?

Any insight would really help me breathe easier right now.
