Turbo blown while stock

Just wanted to make a post for reference, so any future owners can diagnose this issue.

I picked up my 2023 M240i up from BMW after an oil change on 11/1, and shortly after I went to the mall, and noticed a metallic rattle when the car was idle. I thought it was my exhaust valve and thought nothing of it.

Fast forward an hour when I got home, I tried to hear where it was coming from, and after opening the hood it sounded closer to the engine bay. I shut the car off and let it sit for a while.

An hour after that, I started the car up again and the rattle was gone. I let it warm up, it never replicated. I even revved it lightly a few times, nothing. But I didn’t drive the car.

3 hours after that, I take a drive, and I have a huge power loss. A loud whining sound when getting on the gas, and 0 psi on the adaptive content screen. No drivetrain malfunction message and no CEL.

I had the car towed to BMW as to not risk any damage to the cylinders. After a couple days, they have confirmed the turbo is dead. Thankfully it is being fully replaced under my warranty.

The car is completely stock, besides an axleback, no piggyback tunes or anything. 27k miles as well. I’m quite surprised to be honest. I’m not sure if they caused it during the oil change, or if it was just coincidence, but it is what it is. I do my oil changes every 5k, and I always let the car warm up, I don’t do donuts and crazy shit like that.
