This week, our team at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton responded to a disturbing case of neglect in New Lebanon, where 46 dogs and puppies were found living in extremely unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The home was filled with the strong odor of ammonia from accumulated waste, and many of the animals were malnourished, infested with fleas, and suffering from overgrown nails. Several nursing mothers were severely underweight and struggling to care for their puppies.

All of the animals have since been removed and brought to our facility, where they’re now receiving veterinary care, clean housing, proper nutrition, and round-the-clock attention. Many of these dogs will need weeks or even months of care before they’re ready to find forever homes.

Rescues like this one take enormous resources — medical treatment, supplies, and staff time — and we rely entirely on donations from the community to make it possible. We’re also in urgent need of foster families to help these dogs heal in a quiet, comfortable home setting while they recover.

Together, we can help every one of these dogs get the care, love, and safety they deserve.

The case remains under investigation, and anyone who suspects animal neglect or cruelty can report it by calling (937) 262-8091 or submitting a form online at www.hsdayton.org/report.
