Worried an NP wasn’t thorough enough
I made a new patient appointment at a PCP office. They told me it would be with an NP, which I was fine with since I know that midlevels help take things off the plate of the MDs and DOs.
However, I’m worried she wasn’t thorough enough.
I have a documented history of osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, Bertolotti’s syndrome, and COPD.
She did not do any PT or orthopedic referrals when my last PCP did those at our new patient visit due to wait times. She said we’d eventually do an X-ray but gave no indication as to when.
I told her I’m having frequent falls even with my cane including on stairs and when rising from sitting. This wasn’t documented or discussed further than me telling her. I’m very concerned about my falls because of the fact I fall on stairs, and I’m scared I’ll get hurt one of these times.
I told her the pain in my hips and spine are worsening. I told her my hips are very stiff and it can be very hard to move. I told her I haven’t been able to work because of the pain. She didn’t note any of this or ask any follow-up questions. She didn’t perform any physical examination of my lower half.
She didn’t document one of my allergies (Alpha Gal Syndrome) that I told to both her and the MA.
I also told her I have a new mole I’m concerned about. It was bleeding yesterday. She agreed it looked atypical and there would eventually be a derm referral.
She said for now though she just wants to do blood work. Honestly, blood work is the least of my concerns right now. Is she only doing the blood work and nothing else because that’s all that’s in her scope? Or is this the red flag I think it is?
