Sailing Update - Fishing Hopes
What's everyone's thoughts on the latest new resources news?
I was hoping that Sailing might introduce a bit more fishing-wise, since they're thematically both so intrinsically linked.
I guess this post is a fishing rant more than anything... It's too slow. It's even painful at lower levels and quests don't take you over as many thresholds as is the case for other skills.
Some background on my thoughts -
A few reddit searches around the idea of xp at the end of Tempoross reveal a bit of a divide in the community about whether it should award XP at the end similar to Wintertodt etc.
I get the divide - because buffing Tempoross XP gains could make it OP vs other fishing, especially given the rewards.
At the same time I personally would invite it just because fishing is so trash - and because so many other things passively reward fish from fish tables (e.g. Wintertodt) there's less profit in it as a gathering skill. WC I don't feel has been hit AS hard because so many things in the game use wood, but the same applies to a degree. But WC is less painful anyway.
As I said earlier, even early game fishing can be painful - especially pre-fly fishing levels. I wish that sailing would add an alternative to fly fishing (unless you're happy to quest for days on end which I think can put off new and returning players) - it would fill a gap I feel, even if the resource itself is a bit crap.
The Sailing Update brings a lot of mid - later game fishing and I'm happy to see it, but I feel the Sailing Update is a missed backdoor opportunity to develop the fishing skill XP wise.
I guess I have a few suggestions not necessarily all equal or to be implemented at the same time, but:
- Tempoross XP at end of round
- Very slightly boost XP rates on some existing fish (probably in conjunction with Tempoross buff to avoid one becoming stronger than the other
- New sailing fish XP alternatives - especially for earlier levels, I would love to see an alternative to barbarian fishing (faster XP without the fire for example)
Thoughts?
