My (24f) boyfriend (24f) of 8 years has been really delicate recently.. how can I help him?

My boyfriend has been mentally not okay- super depressed, clingy & delicate and everything sets him off.

1. I don't know how to handle it because he's usually the strong one keeping me held up
2. I don't know what I can do to make him feel better & it's killing me He hates work but doesn't feel like he can leave because his dad ( who he's just building a relationship with) is the boss. He's miserable every day he comes home from work and I just don't know what I can do to help him. Does anyone have advice on this situation ?
