What style of room should I look into

So I’m currently exploring university’s and I am stuck on whether or not to apply for a double room or a single room. I first wanted to apply for a double room just so I knew someone and could kind of have someone to get used to and explore a new school and new life together. Though I have heard many bad rumor stories is that true or has anyone experienced bad or great roommates I heard it’s a 50/50 but I just really want to enjoy university life. So if I happen to get a roommate that I don’t connect with well am I able to switch rooms or is that pretty hard to do with limited space. I was also looking into single rooms but I figured it would be very lonely in my room, though it would be nice after I got used to the school and made some friends though I am worried about being more secluded. I think a single would be very nice once I got used to the room as I enjoy my own private time. Also I’m not very interested in an apartment style but I am open to your ideas if you really enjoyed it. So how was your experience with roommates or a single dorm? Could you make friends as easily if you weren’t in a double room? Also did anyone find it hard moving from your own room all by yourself to a double room with a roommate?
