# Hallelujah — Satanic Initiation S7 Ep V

*(historical-philological summary)*

**1 · Setup**
Hillman stages the talk as a “Bakchic revel.” The goal is to show that early Christianity and Judaism grew directly out of Dionysian ecstatic rites that used psychoactive potions (*pharmaka*) to achieve catharsis.

**2 · The Bacchic Rite**

* In a true *Bakchos* festival, **music, dance, and intoxicants** dissolve pain (*lypē*), bringing trance and shared frenzy (*mania*).
* He identifies the ritual drink—“golden wine” or *resurrection wine*—as a **narcotic–entheogenic mixture** that produced visions of rebirth.
* *Lysian* drugs (“pain-killers”) and the “gold” potion symbolize **chemical release from mortality**.
* The frenzied chorus cry *alalá!* becomes the later **“hallelu-yah.”**

**3 · The Son of God and His Cup-Bearers**

* *Ganymedes* (cup-bearer of Zeus) and *Hebe* (Youth) supply ambrosia and nectar—life-preserving fluids.
* The “Son of God,” whether Dionysus or Jesus, depends on them for immortality; thus, the Christian Eucharist is re-cast as a continuation of this **immortality-through-drink rite**.
* Ambrosia and nectar correspond to the **drug and antidote pair** in the mysteries.

**4 · Color and Chemistry**

* The “golden” or “purple” potion marks the transition from ordinary wine to *santhos*—a yellow-red elixir representing **divine blood and solar light**.
* Mixing blood, wine, and psychoactive compounds becomes the chemical key to resurrection.

**5 · Mania and Sacrifice**

* Ecstasy (*mania*) is not madness but a controlled **psychotic purge** guided by rhythm and collective movement.
* The violent imagery (tearing, blood, sacrifice) is Hillman’s way of describing **symbolic ego-death**, the necessary price of rebirth in the rite.
* He claims biblical crucifixion and communion scenes inherit this same pattern.

**6 · Revelation and the Bride**

* Revelation’s “New Jerusalem, the Bride” = **the re-emergence of the feminine principle** (*nymph, Gaia, Zoe*) once worshiped in the mysteries.
* The Christian vision of union with Christ is a **domesticated version of the sacred marriage** (*hieros gamos*) between god and the ecstatic initiate.

**7 · Moses, Baptism, and the Greek Source**

* Hillman reads Paul’s “baptized into Moses” as proof that even Mosaic rites were **Greek-style immersions** derived from oracular and mystery practices.
* “Mana from heaven” is re-interpreted as a **psychoactive sacrament**, not food.
* Judaism and Christianity thus become **regional offshoots of the same Mediterranean initiatory cult.**

**8 · Philosophical Claim**

* Monotheism, in his view, **suppressed the pharmacological knowledge** behind those rites.
* The “fear of Christ” replaced direct experimentation with consciousness.
* The lecture ends with a political warning: whenever priestly power replaces open inquiry, society loses its creative “golden age.”
