ms fatigue or depression
I am a new member of the club at the age of 19. I personally thought I have been coping very well with my diagnosis in November of 2024. At first I turned to alcohol, with steroids being prescribed to me for a whole month as a taper and my initial shock, alcohol made me feel as if I was normal. The steroids were brutal and I was combining them with insane amounts of alcohol (2-3 bottles of wine a day). My family’s initial suggestion was that I take a gap year to relax and get it over with. I could not accept that because my whole life I was independent and never failed. Then this one stupid night where all of a sudden I needed help from everyone turned my life upside down. Then i had motivation from knowing that improving my life with exercises and everything else is going to benefit me. Few months later, I turned again to alcohol. I want to clean up my room but i have no energy or motivation. Nowadays I just lay in my bed and I somewhat follow my courses online. Unfortunately I have failed my first ever course in my life which is insane because I never failed at anything. I simply did not have enough energy to study. I was never behind on my studies and in my dreams I was on track to having a successful career. Now I had to skip a couple of courses bcuz of my initial hospital stay and also ocrevus check ups and infusions. Who will want to hire me if not only am i behind on my studies but I also have a chronic condition that my employer potentially has to pay for? I am simply no longer a competitive employee in the job market and I have never even had a fair chance to fight for it. This is absurd. My question is how do i know if this is depression fatigue or MS fatigue? What doctor should I contact? (for depression it would be my GP for ms it would be my neurologist). How do I know the difference? If this is Depression fatigue I feel quite ashamed because in the beginning of my journey I read that people get over it within a year. How come I was doing relatively well and now that I am abt to reach one year I am in a terrible life position. Sorry for the rant, I tried to talk about it with my friends and family but it seems that no one quiet gets the real situation of how the future looks for people with MS.
