I need soldering advice/information please

I plan to have a few necklaces merged in multiple places and am wondering about "jump rings." I'm not sure what the proper jewelry term is, but I need rings to connect the two ends.

My questions are, can these be regular cable chain links? Or should those types of rings be purchased as open rings? My preference is to buy links and take them in so the manufacuter will be the same for all of the necklace, but I'd have to take them from a finished product as the maker does not sell links alone.

Would this add unnecessary complication? Any input is appreciated. I will be meeting with an actual silversmith, but I'd like to have some idea of what I want and what's possible before I go.
