Blinds mounted on trim? Anyone do this?

We desperately need new blinds, but feeling stuck on how we should position them.

I prefer the look of roman shades or shades with pleating, but our windows are so shallow (due to all of the intricacies of the old moulding + newer windows) that I can't find shades that work for inside mounting (most require at least 2" of depth and ours can only do 1.25 - 1.5").

So that leave outside mount shades.

But I really like the big trim and don't want to obscure it with shades! I was thinking of having outside mount shades on the trim, but I can't tell if that'd look totally stupid.
