Small claims court… please help!
I voluntarily returned my vehicle after losing my job. When doing so I spoke with the bank and informed them what happened. They locked my online portal and wouldn’t let me make partial payments till I got my unemployment or another job to be able to make my full payment. After three attempts of asking them to open it they refused because I had to make a full payment or give them my banking info over the phone. After that I told them to please come a pick up the vehicle. They agreed and said that there would be nothing owed because I only had it for about 8 months. It took them over 9 months to come and get the car. Over those nine months I called several times to remind them. They are now suing me for the remaining balance after selling it. Issue is I was never notified of them selling it, wasn’t given any paper work when they came and got the car and the only time I knew I owed them anything was when I was served for court. If I read the law in IL correctly then there is a huge issue on their part: I cannot afford an attorney but I want to respond to the suit correctly.
Any advice I would appreciate it. Location: is Illinois
