I feel lost

Career Advice

Hello everyone. I’m 22 years old and currently attending university for a degree in Neurobiology with a minor in Chemistry. I’m a super senior (been in Uni for +5 years), and honestly, I feel completely lost in life. I’m not necessarily depressed, but I do feel like I’m wasting my time. I don’t really have a passion for school anymore — I kind of lost it over time, and it’s something I’ve been struggling with a lot.

I currently work 36 hours a week from Friday to Sunday (three 12-hour shifts) and go to school Monday through Thursday — sometimes even on Fridays when I have exams or quizzes. I feel tired all the time, both mentally and physically. I’m taking two hard classes right now: Organic Chemistry I and Calculus-Based Physics I. I have zero motivation or passion to do schoolwork or even care about what I’m learning.

I love baking and cooking, and I’ve been thinking that once I finish my degree, I want to focus on opening my own bakery or coffee shop. But it feels so distant because it seems like I’m never going to finish school. I’ve thought about dropping out, but I’m scared of disappointing everyone in my life — and disappointing myself. I work my ass off to pay for tuition, which barely leaves me any time to rest.

I still live with my parents, and we don’t have a good relationship at all. I want to move out, but if I do, I’d only be able to take one class per semester, which would make my degree take even longer — and that kills my motivation even more.

One of my parents lost their job recently, and I’ve been having to help cover the mortgage for the house with my two older siblings. It’s been really stressful. I just don’t know what to do anymore. I work really hard, but I feel like I’m going nowhere.

What do y’all suggest I do?
