What is the appeal and function of pop sockets for electronics?

If I understand it correctly is the only function that its more comfortable to hold? And apparently this trade off is great enough to be okay with the awkward profile it has in your pocket or bag?

I don't understand the craze with these things. I know its not as popular as it was 6 or 7 years ago but there are still a few people who Stan hard for them?

What gives? The reason I ask is because I got an ereader and asked about accessories and pop sockets came highly recommended. But I looked into it and apparently the magnet in them disables your cover from putting the reader to sleep when closing it.

Why? Why do people handicap themselves for these things? Do the pros really outweigh the cons?
