Circumcision culture in SG. Any unique or shared experiences?
Some context is that I'm a 19 year old Singaporean Chinese guy that was circumcised when I was a baby in the late 2000s because of family tradition. I went through primary and half of my secondary school in SG but went overseas for the rest of my studies.
Growing up as a Chinese guy that was circumcised was definitely unique since as a kid in primary school it was basically nonexistent to find other cut Chinese guys. It was even further emphasized by an MOH nurse that was surprised I was circumcised when she checked my balls in primary school haha. Now that I look back at the experience, it was a bit unprofessional to comment on me being cut but I understand since it's not really common but more family tradition.
When I went overseas to Australia it was definitely a shift in culture not just because it's a more open environment that's more body positive but also because circumcision is more common and accepted there. Me being circumcised wasn't something unique or interesting because half or more than half of the guys are also cut too. It's more acceptable in their society to get cut for no religious or medical reasons.
If I had a son I don't think I'll be carrying on the tradition because I don't really see the point in actively getting a baby cut. If there are problems and a doctor recommends it then I have no problems with the procedure but if there's no issues I don't really think I'll be carrying on.
Are there any other cut Chinese guys here that can share positive or negative experiences with growing up cut in SG? I feel like it's more unique for us because it's not required by religion or any other culture but there are just certain families that do circumcisions for personal reasons.
