Do you find your friends correct you often even when you try to support them?
I find this to be a pattern of multiple friends and it’s starting to feel bad? I don’t know how to explain it super well. For example I would have friends who would vent about things and I’d support them and hear them out and not play devils advocate to the situation they’re complaining about. I do not give advice unless asked. However whenever I do this I find the friends would defend the situation or downplay it and even gently correct me even and take the opposing side. And I get confused and sometimes even feel bad. I had a friend who would complain about people mistreating them and I would defend the friend’s side and in the same sentence the same friend would tell me they aren’t that bad (after me saying they were treating her poorly and her venting about it). Why does this happen?
As someone who is audhd I struggle with social cues a lot and this has happened multiple times from different friends now. So I’m not sure what to do. Or why it happens pretty often. Am I just not picking up social cues like I’m supposed to or is there an explanation to what’s going on?
