Does anyone remember when someone tricked value village employees into thinking they had labatts jobs?

I was just talking about this with my husband, but I can’t remember all the details as it wasn’t some years ago. It was in the news however. It wasn’t a fraud or scam as in money was taken, but some unknown person got a number of value village employees to quit their jobs and go to Labatt’s except there was no job at Labatt’s- so now they were just without a job. A cruel prank but what on earth was the motivation?
