Dorothy's Journey
Hey everyone, this is my first post here, and I wanted to talk a little bit about the journey of our mysterious diva, Dorothy Gale. I've kind of accepted the fact that we won't see her face on screen >!(I feel like if they had shown it, it would have been in the melting scene or at the end when she uses the shoes!<), but anyway, we have more of her than in the theater. Ever since I became a Wicked fan last year and then spoiled the second act for myself because I couldn't wait, Dorothy's journey has always seemed kind of strange to me on Broadway, and now that we're weeks away from seeing WFG, here are my crazy thoughts, so to speak.
Dorothy meeting the group:
I feel like I'm not the only one who's confused by the timing. Dorothy starts following the yellow brick road while>! Fiyero hasn't yet been transformed into a scarecrow!<. So I think maybe the first person she meets is>! Boq/Tin Man!<, finding him a bit rusty, perhaps from the storm that came with the tornado.>! Boq!< would recognize the girl wearing >!Nessa's slippers!<, and Dorothy would then tell him that Glinda sent her to the wizard on foot and in heels. Since >!Boq wanted to escape Nessa and leave Munchkinland!<, he might try to guide her, failing because he hasn't left Munchkinland in a long time and the yellow brick road is very winding. So quite a while would have passed before they met the scarecrow. Remember that >!Fiyero, being part of the royal guard!<, traveled to and from various areas, so it wouldn't have been too difficult for him to guide them to the Emerald City. Then they meet the lion.
The kidnapping and what came after:
We already know that the wizard sends Dorothy and her group to retrieve Elphaba's broom, and in a teaser, we see >!Dorothy and the Fiyero in what appears to be in March of the Witch Hunters!<, so that's what I think.
The group is already leaving the Emerald City, and the crowd follows them, thus beginning the song.>! Then I think that during the middle or end of the song, Dorothy is kidnapped by the flying monkeys and taken to Kiamo Ko.!<
!A while later, Glinda arrives with Elphaba, and they sing "For Good," while apparently Dorothy has managed to escape. Then we see the melting, and we leave Kiamo Ko and return to the Emerald City.!<
!Finally, as I wrap this up, I feel like the Wizard is thinking about how to get Dorothy back home after fulfilling his agreements with Boq, Fiyero, and the Lion. Then Glinda comes and tells him that he's Elphaba's father and that he should leave Oz. Dorothy would stay if she hadn't somehow managed to activate the shoes, and then she leaves Oz too.!<
Forgive me if I went on too long, but I had no one to talk to about this and I'm just too excited, plus I'm using a translator.
