AITAH for still viewing my Dad differently even a decade later?
When I F(30ish) was in my early twenties, I lived with my bf at the time and he gifted me a Wii. For awhile we'd have fun using it, then it started collecting dust. So I'd usually bring it over to my parental house, and play with my siblings. Both were under 10. I found myself lugging it back and forth and after I talked it over with my bf at the time, it was decided to gift it to my family, so it would stay permanently over there. My dad thought it was waste of money, so he would have never purchased it for the family anyway.
My mom, sister, brother and I would play all the time when I was there. We'd be laughing for hours while my dad stood back, always observing but rarely participating...unless it was one he knew he was better at than anyone else. We'd, ski, bowl, hoolahoop, golf...there honestly wasn't a better gift for them.
One night I slept over and in the morning my siblings and I got up to play the Wii and when we logged in to each game, we realized our dad had played all the games that night alone, getting the highest score on all of them. Then as time went on, if we beat his score, once again, we'd see his new high score at the top, the next morning.
I love my dad, but playing a device he considered a waste of money, rejecting the thought of playing with his kids unless he would be the clear winner, and intentionally going through all the games to beat his younger kids scores, rubbed me the wrong way.
I still love him but even after 10 years later, I can't help but still feel that sour taste in my mouth from that.
AITAH for still looking at him differently?
