Why is Essie $17 in Canada?? Invitation to join my rant

When did this occur? Why did it occur? Boutique and indies for life at this point! I have a couple Essies and they should be maxing out at $12 in my humble, somewhat outraged opinion. They're mostly just cremes and somewhat lacklustre shimmers, what accounts for the price?
