How hard is it to get into the music business by making music?
To start I'm a freshman in highschool and I have a large amount of musical experience from what my school offers and the things around me and my area. I've played double bass in orchestra for 4 years and I have learned guitar by myself, I also play electric bass, I want to learn keys and drums soon. I can cite read bass treble and tenor clef, and I will soon be taking private lessons for double bass. I have good vocals and want to use them in songs, I know how to do a basic nasal and fry scream but not very well. I'm able to find tempos in songs within seconds, and I've had some small experience with making my own music. (tbh most of these are listed just to make me feel better about my chances but I thought id list them just because)
I personally want to make music mainly in the rock/metal genre with the idea being like metal core and numetal, but I would be fine make some kind of pop/hiphop type song as I like the genres. My dream since I was a kid was to make music and I've been trying to do as much as I can to get every edge on it. One thing I need a answer on is college, as of right now I'm not going to college unless I get a scholarship in some kind of music department. I'm wondering if that's a mistake or a bad take on college.
TLDR: I have a large amount of experience in music and I'm wondering if its worth it to go for music or if its too hard to get into the music industry.
Main questions: is college needed or helpful if I intend on making my own music? Then, the question I've been putting off asking, how hard is it to get into the music industry itself?
