Got a parking ticket for parking in a commercial parking lot late at night? (Tower Hill)

I parked my car across in this lot late at nights when i visit friends and i came back to a $40 ticket. The price isnt a problem but there was no signage indicating that this is a private lot or parking was forbidden at night? can anyone explain if im in the wrong here?
