A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chapter 076

Chp. 076: Yaku-san's Girlfriend Concentration

The caption at the end of last chapter seems to suggest the girls as "pairs" on this obviously Halloween cover (gee, wouldn't a Halloween chapter be amazing in this manga...), but it's tough to make them out here for some. The obvious ones:

• Kusuri/Yaku (obviously considering the last couple chapters)
• Chiyo/Momiji (the foreground duo)
• Mimimi/Nano (Angel/Devil)
• Hakari/Karane (of course)
• Hahari/Mei (another obvious)

And...that's where it really stops. We get Iku on the ground near Meme, but she seems to be more tied to her interaction with Kurumi as some bat/wolf thing. Then you have Shizuka as a pirate on the scoreboard, Naddy as some Jason/Leatherface fusion, and Yamame...just a waitress. It feels like there was an idea with this cover and it almost works, but then it just falls apart outside some of what was done. It's a cool cover (mostly love the Yakuzen duo, Naddy...and Yamame's cute too, as are the Mimimi/Nano duo), but I sort of wish it was a bit more organized.

"...and so due to..."...look, I have no idea how it happened but we have Kusuri's granny here with us now; she's got the Immortality Drug too so she's another eternal 8-year old but way older. Just bare with me, it's weird but it works.

And Yamame seems to think she's dead already...or seems to think since she has to do the "living things" line. (It's not the worst for Yamame but it is a weird one for her)

Ethics and Hahari...(laughs hysterically)

As an aside...ethics teacher, yay or nay? >!Probably someone who has no ethics themselves would be the only choice with this Family.!<

Oh and as an aside: she's the first GF that isn't associated with the school; but since Hahari runs things, she just gave her permission anyway.

I do wonder if her pension adjusts to inflation...or if the government knows that someone can be immortal and steal from them for way longer than a natural lifespan. (Yakuzen drugs are just dangerous)

We're all friends...except Karane but she's one of those you have to get used to with the whole "tsundere" thing. (wait, that lineup...is this the first test run of the "everyone's heads in the small panel" bit?)

So is she or is she not...depends on the moment.

OK, Kusuri's trying to warm her over but I'm more worried about Hakari's expression.

And how to easily win over Kurumi: candy!

Huh, not soft and Momiji actually likes it.

And Hahari's not buying it...except...yeah, she may be 29 but Yaku outranks her by 60 years. >!(still shocked she's the oldest outside Yaku even now)!<

I think Mei's out of a job if she's left out of Yaku care.

OK, so Rentarou did introduce them to her, but she forgot...plus she still thinks cellphones are just "planks".

We have 14 girls (since you know yourself and your granddaughter) so...here's the abridged version; and pay close attention because there will be a test!:

Now for Naddy...

OK, I want a teacher like this too; but Naddy's not too bad either.

And I suppose not revealing her last name is making Yaku suspicious...but will Naddy bend?

I guess not, she's just good natured like that. (then again these two have way more in common than you realize and the whole reveal she made probably only applies to Rentarou and the GFs prior to her)

Kurumi...um...

Do we want to see her with glasses?

Where did Shizuka get that cookie?

Not much of a chest to cry into considering who it is.

Mei's turn...

This...I could see happen under certain circumstances.

And...she agrees. And Hahari...also agrees.

And I think we just unleashed the biggest horror in existence. >!At least until Yamame gets "drunk" some time from now.!<

Yamame wants to deny it and poor Iku probably wants the tsundere elements to emerge from her classmate.

Um....this is shockingly close considering her backstory and even Mimimi acknowledges it.

Yeah, Mimimi's too...Mimimi to straight-man.

Chiyo...nah, her dad wouldn't let her be a masochist.

And Hakari defends that idea since...Hahari and Iku are just completely different species.

Haven't gotten a growl like that for a while...good thing I admit...and Naddy wants to hogtie her for...why?

Meme time...

Yeah, second biggest in the harem and the one who hides with a minimizing bra looking like the second coming of Vampirella.

Oh great, Momiji's defending her.

Shizuka time...

This feels like a kaijuu movie in the making; if "Son of Godzilla" was actually good!

So time passed and Yaku finally figured it out; it wasn't as funny as the first try but she has to learn them eventually.

And Karane's yelling after what she's been through...again...as usual...

And with all the other names being tossed around, I guess we need her name remembered by the rest of them.

So she's granny...four letters...has to do with drugs...speed...wait is speed a part of this...

If she wasn't family, I'd make her Giancarlo Esposito to Kusuri's Bryan Cranston. (so who's Aaron Paul? Rentarou?)

Review ("newtimer version"): I do find funny that after the shock of her "zing" and how serious her intro was, Yaku's "meet the family" was probably one of the goofiest chapters we've had in a long time, playing off her senility for the sake of showing bizarre takes on the girls that actually don't require drugs...this time...

Serious Version (My Current Thoughts): >!There's not really much I can say about this chapter since...well, it speaks for itself. This is probably one of the best "meet the family" chapters in the series, and it basically is all based around "can Yaku attach names, bodies and personalities" and the weird things that happen because...I mean her body may be youthful but her mind is still 89 years old, give her a break! In some regards, it does feel like a pseudo "His Name" chapter with all the switching but they're not literal since at least we get hilarious and weird visions of the girls in Yaku's mind based on the comments that are said; so goofy that I just imagine how this chapter is going to be done in the anime with the reveals all based on the weird images over the actual girls; and it's not that easy to just suddenly have "super-serious teacher Naddy" or "giant Shizuka" or...OK, we will get an equivalent of "tsundere Yameme" later in the drunk party but we still haven't had cheerleaders so Hakari in that outfit is still a no-no I suppose. And of course it's all capped by another drug joke but considering how long it's been (and how the translation is actually funnier than the original since the "Meth" just comes out of nowhere and fits with Kusuri's intro elements), its at least a strong creative adjustment that I think was needed.!<

Next Time: An honest-to-goodness onsen chapter. (what took them so long? They went to a pool less than 10 chapters in, now we get to the onsen finally...so when is our inevitable beach chapter?)
