ferret got cholecystitis and lost weight
Hello. I’ve got a ferret 5.5 years old female castrated. We noticed that she started to lose weight she weighted 720 grams now she weights 620 grams we assumed it was because of stress (there was another ferret that got euthanized in spring) also she has bald tail since july. We took blood work everything is fine but some results are not normal: (hgb)- 190 g/liter (hct)-59,5 % (mcv)-51,12 fl (mch)-16,32 segmented neutrophils-68% lymphocytes- 23% (Urea)-18,30 mmol/liter (Crea)-89,9 mk mmol/liter
Also we got ultrasound:
“Kidneys:
Left kidney: visualized. Not enlarged, 2.14 × 1.15 cm. Shape is oval. Contours smooth. Differentiation of the cortical and medullary layers is preserved. CMJ (corticomedullary differentiation) preserved. Proportions of cortical and medullary layers normal. Capsule visualized, smooth. Renal pelvis unchanged. No calculi detected. In the upper pole, an anechoic formation (cyst) with smooth contours is visualized, 00.56× 0.32 cm. No neoplasms are detected in the cortical layer.
Right kidney: visualized. Not enlarged, 2.18 × 1.17 cm. Shape is oval. Contours smooth. Cortical and medullary differentiation preserved. CMJ preserved. Proportions normal. Capsule visualized, smooth. Renal pelvis unchanged. No calculi detected. No neoplasms visualized.
Adrenal glands:
Left adrenal gland: visualized. Size 0.36 cm. Typical shape. Contours smooth. Borders clear. Echogenicity normal. CMJ preserved. No neoplasms visualized.
Right adrenal gland: visualized. Size 0.31 cm. Typical shape. Contours smooth. Borders clear. Echogenicity normal. CMJ preserved. No neoplasms visualized.
Liver: visualized. Location typical. Size: not enlarged. Contours smooth. Borders clear. Free edge sharp. Parenchyma echotexture homogeneous. Grain structure average. Echogenicity normal. Vascular pattern moderately expressed. No neoplasms detected.
Gallbladder: visualized. Moderately filled (1.23 × 0.71 cm). Contours smooth. Shape typical. Contents: non-homogeneous, echogenic with fine suspended sediment. Suspended material fills up to 1/3 of the gallbladder volume. Wall not thickened, 0.07 cm. Common bile duct not dilated.
No ultrasound signs of foreign bodies or neoplasms detected.
No special ultrasound features in other organs.
Conclusion (current ultrasound findings):
Presence of suspended sediment in the gallbladder (chronic/metabolic cholecystitis cannot be ruled out)
Presence of a single cyst in the left kidney”
I’m not completely sure why she lost weight she eats normal amount of food regularly. Not sure what type lab work do we need. I need second opinion please.
If something about lab is unclear i have lab results but it is in russian hope this helps.
