AITA For Getting Upset Over A Watch?

My wife and I both came from single parent families, and I think that's part of the reason we clicked so well at the start. We're also total opposite. She's the straight A, never parties, never drinks type. I was the complete opposite growing up. Her family didn't exactly welcome me at first, but I worked hard to prove myself and though I eventually did.

8 years ago, her mom retired and moved closer to us because her older brother had kids. With our Asian background, her brother is automatically considered the "head of the family" That hierarchy is very obvious too. For ex. at dinner, my wife would serve him first despite his wife is sitting right next to him. His wife also prioritizes him over their own kids, so the kids are usually left with my mother-in-law.

Naturally, my wife worries about her mom and asks me to help by cooking, babysitting, fixing things etc. When her mom stays with us, it's really to recharge. At first, I didn't mind, our kids could play together, and it made my wife happy, but it spiraled. Suddenly, we're watching their kids all the time while her brother went on dates, outings, playing MJ, basketball, etc. My MIL spoils their kids rotten so they're little terrors where I constantly have to explain to my kids why their cousins are allowed this and that.

Fast forward - my wife had a work trip in the East. I tagged along for a concert and to meet with some friends. She works in luxury and always talked about getting me a Rolex for my birthday. Her boss even said she had a surprise for us when we got there. Since I own a few already, I told my wife I was only interested in 2 models. If it wasn't one of those, maybe offer it to her brother since he's been asking for one too and had a list of 6 models. The 2 that I had, I planned to pass them to my kids when they're at age.

So we're at the store and they brought out the one I wanted. Before I could react, my wife called her brother immediately to announce she bought him a watch. I was stunned. To make things worse, because her boss pulled strings, we had to go for dinner and pretend the watch was mine all night. I had to sit there, fake smile, thank her constantly. On the way, my wife rubbed it in saying she couldn't believe how generous I am, how I should take pictures with it for memories and if it was a Chanel bag, she would've never given it up. Later she realized how hard it was to get the watch where she repeatedly said she felt guilty. Please note - we don't casually buy these types of stuff. They're usually milestone rewards.

That night was my breaking point. I went silent for 2 months. My wife eventually noticed something was wrong and all my accumulated frustration poured out after. It wasn't just about the watch, it was everything.. Anytime something breaks at her brother's house, I'm expected to go fix it. Internet, network, anything tech, I'm expected to go fix. They wanted an automated garage; I'm expected to go install. They can skip my kids' birthdays, but I'm expected at all theirs. Whenever they had problems, I'm expected to guide them. Meanwhile, my needs and feelings don't exist. Her family comes first.

I've had talks with my wife before, but she acts like this is normal. It's not. I feel like I'm just here to support her family, not to have a marriage. At this point, I'm just here for my kids. They're the reason why I haven't walked away.

AITA for being petty? If we sold everything tomorrow, my wife could easily move in with her brother where she seems the happiest. Maybe finally I'd stop feeling like an outsider in my own life.
