Concerned about my answer on the "applying for need-based financial aid" question

Financial Aid/Scholarships

hi, so basically, i come from an upper-middle income family and it's pretty unlikely i'm going to be receiving much need-based financial aid, if any at all, from the colleges i'm applying to. however, i did fill out the FAFSA and CSS profile and already sent it to all the schools, because that was what we were advised to do at my high school. i heard that some colleges require these docs for merit-based aid consideration, and i'm hoping to get merit aid from some of the colleges i'm applying to, hence i filled them out.

i've already submitted applications to 2 of the safeties from which i'm hoping to get merit aid and 2 expensive private schools i already know my family isn't going to be able to afford, but which the net price calculators said i wouldn't get any need-based aid from. when i was filling out the applications for each of these schools on common app, it asked me if i was planning to pursue need-based financial aid, and i answered no to all of them because i was certain i wasn't going to receive any, especially after running the calculators, and i was worried it would hurt my application if i said i was pursuing it. however, now i'm looking online and seeing that maybe i should have put "yes" anyways and left it up to the college itself to decide. i'm really worried now- does this also mean i'll no longer be considered for merit aid/scholarships? my answer only applies for need-based aid, right? is there any possibility of emailing the admissions counselor to change those responses? should i answer differently for my remaining 7 college apps?
