Mounjaro at a Korean Weight Loss Clinic

Experience

Hello!

I thought I would share my experience so far, as I started Mounjaro three days ago going through a clinic in South Korea. I went to a weight loss clinic while here in Seoul - they did a full body scan, blood testing, and ordered a hormone panel. The body scan showed my MBR was only 1300, when it should be closer to 1800-2000. This confirmed a lot for me as I’ve only been able to lose weight when under a 1,000 calorie diet - which is exhausting.

We went ahead and started Mounjaro same day, but the doctor said we should have answers next week on why my MBR is so low. In total, my first visit cost with the blood work, hormone panel, body scan, internist consultation and first month’s prescription of Mounjaro was $450 - about $200 of the cost was for the blood work and hormone panel, with the monthly supply for 2.5mg being around $250. The 5mg goes up in price to around $350.

As for side effects, I hadn’t eaten for about 10 hours before the first shot (busy day) so I had a lot of nausea. I developed a pretty severe migraine the second day as well, accompanying the nausea. Now on day 3, I woke up with minimal nausea and no headache. I took some advice from this sub, and had some yogurt yesterday and this morning and forced myself to eat last night. I think that really helped.

I’m looking forward to following up with this doctor and hopefully the first month will result in weight loss for me. I expect to receive treatment for 2-3 months before returning to the US and continuing treatment there. But I will admit finally having a doctor acknowledge my really low BMR felt validating! Rather than just being told “eat less.” by every doctor I’ve had before.

I’m open to any advice to avoid the nausea and headaches before my next dose!
