Thinking being a PA might be in my future

Misc

Hi everyone! I (23F) am currently in my radiology technology program at my community college. It was a HUGE accomplishment for me. I busted my ass to get here. I’m expected to graduate in 2027 (I’ll be 24 & then will turn 25 a few months after). I plan on immediately starting work & getting my CT cert through the same school.

This week has been such a high for me. I’ve been in my OR clinical rotation & the surgeon had me scrub in on 2 surgeries. It was seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten the privilege to witness in my life. The first one was a L4-S1 decompression I believe & then the one from today was C4-C7 disc removal. It was a sight to see. I got to actually be apart of it. The surgeon would step back & tell me to get in there to see while the PA & him were explaining things to me. Why he chose me I don’t know, but the techs at my site have even said that that’s something special. He has let techs scrub in in the past, but they weren’t allowed to get in close from what I was told by them. My tech mentioned something to me saying “maybe this will eventually lead you to PA school” on Monday. After today I can’t stop thinking about it.

I want to enjoy my life as a rad tech for a few years. I love radiology. Anatomy is an awesome thing to me & im fascinated with it. But my program director has recently mentioned something about making it easier for us to get our bachelors degree (idk the details). She just took a poll one day in class and asked if that’s something we’d be interested in & said she was talking to some people about it. I think if she can pull that off I’d want to pursue being a PA down the line. Maybe in my 30’s after I’ve gotten rid of debt & have created a more stable life for myself through my rad tech career. Financially everything is a shit show at the moment lol

Does anyone else have a similar story? Curious to hear about your journey into this profession
